What Activities are You Involved In?
Varsity soccer, Pi Kappa Alpha, AGC and ASCE.
What Brought You to ARCO?
ARCO first intrigued me when I went to their informational session that was held at our school. It was a great opportunity to learn about the company and the kind of ‘work hard play hard’ culture they promote in the workplace. The culture here is phenomenal, it’s fun, fast paced, and cooperative. Playing for the soccer team at S&T has taught me that you work harder for your friends, and the same can be applied to the workplace. At ARCO everyone is friendly and wants to get to know you on a personal level. The culture here is really what sets ARCO apart from the competition.
What is a Typical Day Like for an ARCO Co-Op?
A typical day at ARCO can consist of a number of different things, usually first I’ll ask each of the project managers if they have any task I can assist them with. That can include takeoffs, bid instructions, visiting job sites, organizing and editing drawings, managing job books, estimation, and so on. I keep a to do list to help organize all this information so I can accurately perform the task and complete it when the project managers needs the assignment finished. The entire staff is eager to assist and help out through any process so you can be successful and get the job done.
What is the Best Advice You Have Ever Received?
Always have a notebook and pen when you enter a project managers office. You never know when they might want help with something. Be organized and proactive you get out of your co-op experience what you put into it. There is so much information that can be learned here at ARCO that isn’t taught in the classroom.
If You Could Give Advice to Future Co-Ops, What Would it Be?
If you get the small details of the process right, the results will come.
What is On Your Bucket List?
I would like to travel to Europe and go to various soccer games in England, Germany, and Spain. I would also like to attend the World Cup and follow the U.S. Men’s team around and go to their various games.
